Lucille Clements Franklin

Lucille Clements Franklin, 96, of Malvern passed away August 5, 2010 at National Park Medical Center. She was born in Hot Spring County on October 17, 1913 the daughter of William Marion and Myrtle (Kemp) Clements. She was a graduate of Hot Springs High School, Henderson State University, and had graduate credit at Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee, and Columbia Teacher's College in New York. Her thirty-seven years of teaching high school math was in Donaldson, Arkadelphia, and the last twenty-seven years at Malvern High School. Lucille was a member of the First Baptist Church for over 50 years, where she was very active teaching an adult Sunday school class for forty years, was a member of the church choir, and assumed a leadership position in other areas, such as the women's organizations. She was also a member of the Malvern Women's Club, Malvern Musical Arts, Literacy Council of Hot Spring County, American Legion Auxiliary, local and state Retired Teacher's Associations, Delta Kappa Gamma, and was a Pink Lady at HSC Medical Center. One of her most gratifying activities was organizing and coordinating the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) project in Malvern for over twenty years. She enjoyed being able to help the elderly and low income with their tax returns. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Delton Franklin; brothers, George, Eugene and Jack Clements; and sister, Francis Lewter. Survivors are her sister, Helen Whitley of Hot Springs; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be Saturday, August 7th at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Malvern with Brothers Doug and Larry Clements officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the First Baptist Family Life Center from noon until 2 p.m., prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Curtis Lewter, Jerry Lewter, James Wilburn Clements, Travis Lane, Dean Clark, and Ken Tonseth. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Bruce White, Roger Murphy, Rick Varnell, Charles Keeney, and members of the Ever Ready Sunday School Class. Arrangements are by Regency Funeral Home.
