Mary Ruth Hollowell

Mary Ruth Hollowell was born on November 19, 1936 in Marianna, Ark., the 9th child out of 12 to J.D. and Daisy Ruth Davis. She passed away August 7, 2010 at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock. She graduated in 1954 from Central High School and started to work at Helena National Bank. She worked there for 54 years, and served as Vice President. She and her husband of 54 years, JV., were owners and operators of Jay's Drive In. She was a member of Altrusa Club and a longtime member and officer of Phillips County Port Authority Marketing Committee. She was an avid sports fan, especially the Arkansas Razorbacks and the St. Louis Cardinals. She is survived by her husband J.V. Hollowell; her son Jay Hollowell (Mary Ann); grandson, Tripp Hollowell (Katie Collins, Fiance') of Fayetteville, Ark.; granddaughter Kristin Bettis (Adam); great grandson Grayson Bettis of Southaven, Miss.; sisters Helen Baker of Batesville, Ark., Bettye Garrison of Houston, Texas, Linda Maier of Greers Ferry, Ark., Billie Sue Rohrscheib (Henry) of Lexa, Ark.; brother Joe Davis (Kathy) of Athens, Ga. and Helena, Ark. Preceeded in death by: Parents J.D. & Daisy Ruth Davis; sisters, Ruby Nelson, Dorothy McDowell, Maxine Lumpkin, Frankie Grubbs and Sarah Grady; brother, Gene Davis. She has many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews that she loved very much, as well as Sandra Bridgett and Ashley Clemonts, who were her special caregivers. Pallbearers are Gene Davis, Joe Grubbs, Cotton Rohrscheib, Eddie Grubbs, Brad Nelson, Terry Grubbs, David Maier, Don A. Medlin, Byron Medlin, Clark Medlin, Mark Garrison, Adam Bettis and Craig Garrison. Memorials may be made to the Alice Bass Nursing Scholarship Fund % Helena National Bank, DeSoto School or Second Baptist Church where she was a member. Funeral Services will be held at Second Baptist Church in West Helena with Brother Danny Spurlock officiating at 10 a.m. on August 10, 2010. Visitation will be held at Roller-Citizens on August 9, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park at West Helena, Ark. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses on floor 10-A and ICU South at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock for all the love and care they gave Mary Ruth and her family during this last month.
