Leland N. DeVore

Leland N. DeVore, 75 of Des Arc, Ark. passed away on August 11, 2010 at White County Medical Center, Searcy, AR. He was born March 25, 1935 in the Oak Prairie community outside of Des Arc to the late Elmer L. and Grace Eddins DeVore. He was a 1953 graduate of Des Arc High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army as a medic from 1957-1959. Leland began his career as a businessman at a young age as a manager for Young's Department Stores. He also was involved in logging, raised cattle and hogs, and farmed rice and soybeans until the mid 1970's. At that time, he began a new career opening a retail lumber business in Camden, Ark. Lee's Lumber Company opened for business in Camden in 1975 and another Lee's location opened in Pine Bluff in 1988. Lee's lumber company was well known for providing building supplies for construction needs in the area. Leland made a positive impact on the business community as a leader and example of providing excellent customer service and only missed a handful of days from work due to heart surgery. He enjoyed many friendships and business acquaintances through his years in the lumber business and loved the job. Leland retired from the lumber business in 1998 and enjoyed his retirement spending time with friends and family, fishing, and gardening. Leland enjoyed sharing his garden vegetables and making and sharing his jars of pickles. He is survived by his children: Ginger Price of Camden, Kevin DeVore and Tonya (Billy) Tucker of Beebe; grandchildren: Marcus (Christie) Price and Rustin (Elisha) Price of Camden, Clint Price, Cortnie, Shalen, and Lexi DeVore, Katrina (Brian) Mills and Laura Tucker all of Beebe; great-grandchildren: Tyler, Justin, Abby, and Shelby Price and Dylan, Aspen, and Heaven Herring of Camden and Avery and Drake Mills of Beebe. He is also survived by one sister, Janice Bell of Des Arc and a host of family and friends. Visitation will be Friday August 13 from 6:00-8:00 at Garth Funeral Home in Des Arc. Funeral services are 10 a.m., Saturday August 14 at First United Methodist Church in Des Arc with interment in Lakeside Cemetery, Des Arc. Online guest register www.garthfuneralhome.com.
