Meredith McCoy died at age 61 in Maryland Hospice on August 6, 2010, after a long brave battle with cancer. She is survived by husband Scott Slaughter of Chevy Chase, Maryland; son Captain Garrett Slaughter, 10th Army Special Forces Group, Stuttgart, Germany; daughter Evelyn Slaughter, Tulane School of Medicine; and brothers Travis W. McCoy and John G. McCoy of Little Rock. Meredith was born January 21, 1949, in Little Rock, to Travis W. McCoy and Evelyn Greene McCoy. She attended public schools in Little Rock and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in philosophy from the University of Arkansas, where she was a Chi Omega. She then received a Masters in Library Science from Simmons University in Boston, and a law degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Meredith worked in public and private spheres in the Washington, D.C. area, except for the time she took off to raise her children and to care for her sick mother, who died of cancer in 2007. Despite all her academic and professional achievements, Meredith's true success is measured by how much her family and many friends will miss her. There will be a memorial service on September 3, 2010, 10 a.m. ET at All Saints Church, 3 Chevy Chase Circle, Chevy Chase, Maryland. Meredith's ashes will later be interred at her family plot in Little Rock at a date not yet determined. No matter how long Meredith lived somewhere else, Little Rock was always be her home.
