Leon Bernard Scanlan

LEON BERNARD SCANLAN, age 87, of Jacksonville passed away Aug. 19, 2010, at North Metro Medical Center in Jacksonville, Ark. Mr. Scanlan was born Oct. 4, 1922, in Bee Branch, Ark., a son of Joseph and Ovie Scanlan. He enlisted in the Army in 1940 and transferred in to the Air Force in 1946. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1964 after 24 years of service. He was employed for 21 years with First Electric Cooperative and retired again in 1995. He was a Mason and a Shriner. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Danna May Scanlan; and their son, Jerry Alan Scanlan; a sister, Burnelle Fleming. Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Green of Fayetteville, Ark., and Jeannie Dykes of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren. Graveside services with full military honors will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at Bee Branch Cemetery near Bee Branch, Ark.
