VERNICE TOWNLEY, 88, of North Little Rock was born Nov. 20, 1921 in Scotland, Ark., and passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones on Friday, Aug. 20, 2010. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a long time member of Baring Cross Baptist Church in North Little Rock and was employed at JC Penney for 52 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Jo Ann Russell and her husband Joel Sanders of North Little Rock, a sister Edith Gilpatrick of Leachville, Ark., a brother Carl Skidmore of De Queen, Ark., two grandchildren Shannon Lensing and her husband Chris of Safety Harbor, Fla., and Steve Cave and his wife Cathie of San Francisco, Calif., and one great-grandson Alex Cave of Arkadelphia, Ark. She is preceded in death by her first husband William Russell and her second husband Merle Townley, three brothers Sterling, Joe and Jack and one sister Audrey. Funeral services will be held on Monday Aug. 23, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, (501) 835-3515 with visitation on Sunday Aug. 22, 2010 from 2 – 4 p.m. Burial will follow at Edgewood Memorial Park in North Little Rock. www.griffinleggettresthills.com.
