Helen Flanner de Noble, known to all as "Bunny" of Manhattan, Kansas, died peacefully on December 1, 2010. She was born on November 5, 1928 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Philip D. Flanner and Mary Gittens Flanner Johnson. She grew up in her beloved Wisconsin with her brother Philip "PD" Flanner, and her sister Merry "Mutsi" Johnson Campbell, who resides in Pollock Pines, Calif. Bunny was married on November 6, 1948 to Henry "Hank" Martin de Noble, in De Pere, Wisconsin. They lived in Green Bay, Wisconsin; Lubbock, Texas; Springfield, Missouri; and finally settled in Little Rock, Arkansas. In the nearly 50 years she lived in Little Rock, she made significant contributions to United Cerebral Palsy and various mental health associations through her tireless work and volunteer efforts. Her involvement in the Episcopal Church brought her a great deal of comfort. She was an avid reader, writer, and supporter of the fine arts. The holiday season, spent with friends and family brought her the greatest pleasure. She moved to the Fayetteville, Arkansas area in 2004 and subsequently to Manhattan, Kansas in 2009. Ms. de Noble is survived by her children, H. Keith de Noble , his wife Edna A. de Noble of Bigelow, Arkansas; Deborah M. Wilson, her husband Michael J. Wilson of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; Elizabeth A. de Noble of Carpentaria, California and Timothy E. de Noble, his wife Anne de Noble of Manhattan, Kansas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, husband and grandson Phil de Noble. Her love of literature was a lifelong passion. In the words of her favorite poet, William Blake; "He who binds to himself a joy Does the winged life destroy; But he who kisses the joy as it flies Lives in eternity's sun rise." A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, December 5th from 4 to 6 p.m. at the home of Tim and Anne de Noble in Manhattan, Kan. There will a private memorial service at a later date.
