John H. Johnston

John H. Johnston Jr., age 90, of Wynne, Arkansas died on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee following an illness. Mr. Johnston was born in Imboden, Arkansas on May 31, 1920. He grew up in Kensett, Arkansas. He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1940. Following a year of employment with the Farm Security Administration, he came to Levesque to assist his father, John H. Johnston Sr., in raising cotton and cattle. In 1948 he married the former Howard Holloway. He was a member of the Wynne Rotary Club and a member of the Wynne First United Methodist Church. A board member of the Cross County Bank for 40 years, and served as chairman of the board from 1987 to 1988. He retired from the farming business in 2003, but stayed active with business interests and golf. Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by his son, Hank Johnston. He is survived by wife, Howard, daughters, Amelia Johnston Harris and Jennifer Johnston Tippett, daughter-in-law, Susan Johnston, his son-in-law, Elsey Harris, seven grandchildren, sisters, Nina Louise Todd and Jean Clarke. There will be a visitation for friends and family on Friday, December 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kernodle Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at the Wynne First United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 4, at 4 p.m. Memorial may be made to the Wynne First United Methodist Church or to the Cross County Library.
