Dr. Charles Gordon Winter

Dr. CHARLES GORDON WINTER, age 73, of Little Rock passed away Friday, Dec. 3, 2010. He was born Dec. 28, 1936 in Hanover, Pa., to the late Charles and Emma Mae Crouse Winter. He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Amy Grim Winter, of York, Pa., and his brother, Robert Winter of Olney, Md. Dr. Winter received his doctorate of biochemistry from the University of Michigan in 1964. He was employed by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences as a researcher, teacher, and scientist for 41 years beginning in 1966. In 1994, he became the Associate Dean of Academic Research at the University College of Medicine, a position he held until retirement in 2007. In 2004, the College of Medicine conferred upon him the title of Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry. He was member and elder of Grace Presbyterian Church and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Betty Ann Fuhrman Winter, their three sons, Charles David Winter, of Little Rock, Dr. Douglas A. Winter and wife Angela of Little Rock, and John Kevin Winter and wife Angela of Cincinnati, Ohio. He is also survived by grandchildren, Melissa and Benjamin Winter of Little Rock, Shannon Leigh Winter of Florence, Ky., and step-granddaughter, Krista Rose Loose of Cincinnati, Ohio. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 6 at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth Funeral Home, 5800 W. 12th St., Little Rock, Ark. Funeral and burial will be at Black Rock Church of the Brethren, Brodbecks, Pa. A memorial service to celebrate Dr. Winter's life will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church in Little Rock and will be announced at a later date.
