Patricia Camp Farris

Patricia Camp Farris, of Hot Springs, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2010. Patsy was born in Conway on May 8, 1927 to Bennie Lois and Edward Earl Camp. She married Jefferson Farris on July 31, 1948; they were married for 60 years at the time of his death in January of 2009. A graduate of Conway High School and Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA), Patsy earned a dual master's degree from ASTC and another from Peabody College of Education in Nashville. She was a school teacher in Arkansas public schools for many years before retiring to support her husband while he served as president of the University of Central Arkansas and as CEO of the National Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Patsy and Jefferson retired to Hot Springs Village in 1991 where they enjoyed playing golf, traveling, and gardening. They later moved to Hot Springs where they were active in the First United Methodist Church. Patsy is survived by her children, Rebecca (James) Mills of Henderson, Nevada; Elizabeth (John) Sorrels of Hot Springs; and Jeff (Kathy) Farris of Guy; five grandsons, seven great-grandchildren, two nieces, and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Ed Camp Jr. The family wishes to thank Gayle Gartney, housekeeper; Sandra Adams, Caregiver, and Stacey Davis, RN, with Arkansas Hospice, for providing excellent care and true kindness. They also would like to thank the physicians and staff of Hot Springs Internal Medicine. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs.
