Billy Edward Corn, 88, of Searcy, passed away December 9, 2010, at his home. Born October 1, 1922, in Gurdon, Arkansas, he was the son of Glen and Ollie (Culp) Corn. Preceding him in death were his sons, William E. Corn and David G. Corn; his brother, Jack G. Corn; and a sister, Lillian (Corn) Graham. Mr. Corn was a member of the First Baptist Church and served his church in the capacity of choir member, usher, and secretary for the Young Adults Department. He was a retired AP&L (Entergy) employee and was the manager for the Marketing–Sales Department for the Northeast District. During WWII, he served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army/Air Corp in England and France. His love of Searcy was evident by his service to the Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club, where he served proudly as president of these organizations. He was an avid golfer and served on the board of the Searcy Country Club. Mr. Corn was honored by the Jr. Chamber of Commerce as an employee of the year. Mr. Corn is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gwen (Carpenter) Corn; two granddaughters, Sarah and Amanda Corn of Searcy; one step-granddaughter, Kimberly Middaugh of Shreveport, Louisiana; one great-granddaughter, Natalea; and two step-great-grandchildren, Christian and Lauren. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, December 11, 2010, at the First Baptist Church of Searcy. Arrangements by Powell Funeral Home of Searcy. www.powellfuneralhome.net.
