Kate McFadden McCollum

Kate McFadden McCollum, age 95, died on Friday, Dec. 9, 2010, at the Woodruff County Rehab Center where she had been a patient for the past four weeks. Prior to that time, she was a resident of the John Davis Residential Care in McCrory. She was born Jan. 24, 1915, at Grays, Woodruff County, Ark., to Jonas Franklin and Jessie Almedia Sims McFadden. At an early age she and her family moved to Cabot, Lonoke County, Ark., and it was there that she met and married her husband, Robert Murlie McCollum. She was baptized early in childhood and became a member of the Mt. Tabor Methodist Church, later moving her membership to the McCrory United Methodist Church. Mrs. McCollum was predeceased by her husband, Robert Murlie McCollum; her parents; and two brothers, Henry Lester McFadden and Frank L. McFadden. She is survived by one brother, Thomas McFadden of Cave City; one son, Robert Lewis McCollum (Peggy) of Newport; daughter, Betty Kate Thompson (Vance) of McCrory; three grandchildren, Elizabeth McCollum, Houston, Texas, Robert H. McCollum, Paragould, Ark., and Beverly Nix, Jonesboro, Ark.; three great-grandchildren, Katherine Prescott, Kristin McCollum and Karrah McCollum; one great-great-granddaughter, Alice Katherine Prescott, all of Jonesboro, Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who used her gifts of hospitality and care-giving by cooking and graciously serving family and friends who were in her home. Visitation will be Monday, Dec., 13, 2010, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home, McCrory with the funeral service conducted by Rev. Dixon Platt immediately following at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Fakes Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Barney Fields, Randall Marsh, Sean Williams, Tony Holder, L.J. Sawyer, Nathan Dabbs, Mickey Holder, Bobby Cheatham, Eddie Rushing and Walter Rushing. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to the Woodruff County Health Care, 139 Hwy. 64, McCrory, Ark. 72101.
