MARTHA LEE BOND, 78, of Sherwood, died Dec. 10, 2010 at St. Vincent's Infirmary in Little Rock. She was born in Jonesboro to Louis and Mary Victoria Bond. After high school, Martha attended Jonesboro Business College. Her first job was working in the Graber's Department store office. She moved from Jonesboro to Memphis in 1955 and lived there for many years. Martha was a devout Catholic and was very active in her church in Memphis, St. John's Catholic Church, where she served on the Legion of Mary. She is currently a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and has helped with the Arts & Crafts Guild. Martha had a profound love of dogs for her entire life. She and her sister, Margaret, raised party-colored Cocker Spaniels for many years. Since she did not have children of her own, she considered these special dogs her "children". Several of the dogs placed in the Memphis Dog Show and one, Little Man, went on to be a champion. One of her "children", Amy, received rave reviews in a production of The Barretts of Wimpole Street at the Memphis Theater. Martha loved to entertain and was a wonderful cook. Her family has many wonderful memories of holidays celebrated at her home. Martha retired and moved to Sherwood to share a home with her sister. She is survived by that sister, Mary Carolyn Dupwe and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly and considered her to be a second mom. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Louis Bond, John Bond; and one sister, Margaret Virginia Bond. Funeral services will be Tuesday at Emerson Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at City Cemetery of Jonesboro. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be Monday 6–9 p.m. with Rosary being said at 7 p.m. An online guestbook can be signed at www.emersonfuneralhome.com.
