Bert Spencer Jordan Jr., age 86, of Crossett, Ark. departed this life on December 12, 2010. He was the son of Bert Spencer Jordan Sr. and Allie Elliott Jordan. Bert was born on October 21, 1924 in Little Rock, Ark. and was a graduate of Little Rock High School. He attended the University of Arkansas College of Engineering graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Bert met the love of his life Gertrude Ann Langhammer at Winfield Methodist Church in Little Rock at a single's mixer. They dated for two years and were married on August 27, 1950. In October of 1954 the first of their two daughters, Elizabeth Ann was born. Their second daughter, Jo Clair, was born in October 1958. His employment history included the following: Little Rock Housing Authority, The Crossett Company, Georgia Pacific and private practice. Bert was registered to practice as a Professional Engineer on March 17, 1953. At the time of his death, he had one of the lowest active numbers in the state. His professional accomplishments were numerous. He served as President of Arkansas Society of Professional Engineers. Bert was appointed by then Governor David Pryor to the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. He was a member of The Arkansas Academy of Mechanical Engineers. Bert was a member of the Crossett Lions Club with 52 years of perfect attendance. He served in many capacities in the club. But the ones that gave him the greatest joy were getting glasses for those who could not afford them and work in the annual fishing derby at Lucas Pond. He is the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow award for humanitarian service. Bert was also a 10 gallon blood donor for the Arkansas Red Cross. He served in the United States Navy, retiring with a rank of Lieutenant Commander. Bert was a pilot who preferred to land on water rather than a pitching deck. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crossett. His service to his church varied from head usher to Trustee to Lay Delegate to the Arkansas Conference of the Methodist Church. His service to the community included serving on the City Planning Commission, Centennial Park Committee and as president of the City Water Commission. Bert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gertrude of Crossett, Ark.; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Jordan Myers and Jo Clair Jordan, both of North Little Rock, Ark. and two sisters-in-law, Pat Cummins of Greenwood, Miss. and Jean Bynum of Clarksville, Tenn. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 16, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church of Crossett with Dr. Russell R. Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Little Rock, Ark. at 3 p.m. under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett, Ark. (www.jonesservice.com) Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 500 Main Street, Crossett, Ark. 71635. And as Daddy always said "Ya'll keep misbehavin."
