Mrs. Dorothy Moore, 95, Hope, Arkansas, passed away Monday, December 13, 2010, at Baptist Medical Center, Little Rock, Arkansas, just 11 days short of her 96th birthday. Mrs. Moore was born in Stamps, Arkansas, December 24, 1914, the fourth child of Robert W. and Alice Mitchell Yarbrough. Her beloved husband, Donald V. Moore of Hope, Arkansas, passed away in 1991, after almost 57 years of marriage. Mrs. Moore was a graduate of Henderson State University and retired school teacher in the Hope School District, where she taught for 32 years in various elementary grades. Because she was an excellent teacher and was much loved and respected by her students, the district superintendent permitted her to continue teaching past the regular retirement age. Her husband finally talked her into retiring in 1985, at the age of 71. One of her younger fellow teachers recently commented that he learned "Teaching 101" from her when he started his teaching career. Almost everywhere she went in Hope, she would run into one of her former students, who would ask, "Mrs. Moore, do you remember me?" In addition to teaching, she loved to play ragtime piano and was often asked to play at various school functions and programs. She excelled at entertaining colleagues in the teacher's lounge with her stories (mostly true) and jokes. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hope, the Hope Cosmopolitan Club and several professional organizations during her teaching career. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Linnie Yarbrough and Maurine Hudgens, Stamps, Arkansas, and her brother, Robert F. Yarbrough, Prescott, Arkansas. Mrs. Moore is survived by two sons: Van Moore and wife, Nancy, Little Rock, Arkansas and Larry Moore, Hot Springs Village; three grandchildren: Mark J. Moore (Chris), Little Rock, Arkansas; Vance Moore (Renee), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Lisa Fowler, Little Rock, Arkansas; three great-grandchildren, Mitchell Moore and Shelby Moore, Hattiesburg and Mary Catherine Moore, Little Rock; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family is appreciative of the efforts of the doctors, nurses and staff at Baptist Hospital, who attended Mrs. Moore during her final illness and at Briarwood Nursing Home in Little Rock, where she resided the last few months of her life. The family is also especially indebted to Carolyn Matthews and Sherry Warren, live-in caregivers, who provided Dorothy with such loving and competent care during the past few years at her home in Hope.
