Sylvester F. Kaplon, 88, of North Little Rock, passed away Monday, December 13, 2010. He was retired from The Veteran's Administration Hospital (Ft. Roots) in North Little Rock. Mr. Kaplon was member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Rosary Solidarity. He was a World War II Army veteran and received five Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. Mr. Kaplon loved working in his garden and in his spare time building houses. He was also a very good cook. Mr. Kaplon served at the daily Mass for the last eight years of his life. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Angeline (Banaszak) Kaplon; two daughters, Theresa Kaplon of North Little Rock and Jane Doolos of Maumelle; one granddaughter, Lisa Doolos of Maumelle; one great-granddaughter, Alexis Doolos of Maumelle; one brother, August Kaplon; and one sister, Regina Ruple both of North Little Rock. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Kaplon; granddaughter, Karen Doolos; parents, John and Helen Kaplon Sr.; and eight brothers. Memorials may be made to Karen Doolos Scholarship Fund at Mount Saint Mary's Catholic School, 3224 Kavanaugh Blvd., Little Rock, Arkansas 72205. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday at the North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main, 758-1170 with the Rosary to follow at 6 p.m. Online obituary and guest registry at www.nlrfh.com.
