Richard Phelps Grable

Richard Phelps Grable, formerly of Hardy, Arkansas died Thursday at Eaglecrest Nursing & Rehab. He was born October 29, 1928, in Sanger, California, the son of the late Goss Silas Grable and Rose Gertrude (Alligrini) Grable. He was an elementary School teacher in Fontana, California and an elementary school principle in Las Vegas, Nevada for a number of years. He belonged to the National Ski Patrol for 52 years, and was the acting Ski Patrol Director at Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort for 45 years. He was an Avalanche Rescue Instructor, and on the Board of Directors of the Far West Ski Association. He was a member of the Cherokee Village United Methodist Church. Richard was a quiet person but dynamic, gentle but strong patient, loving, caring and a good listener. Richard was a very creative person and inventor. He is survived by his wife, Sally: one son, Bruce Grable and his wife, Liz of Salt Lake City, Utah: Three daughters, Betsy Grable and husband, Henry of Heber City, Utah: Anne Ligon and her husband, Trey of Reno, Nevada: Tamare Danforth and husband Andrew of Chatilly, Virgina: two grandsons and two granddaughters, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert Goss Grable and Donald Edward Grable, and cousin Betty Grable. A celebration of life will be held at the Cherokee Village United Methodist Church on 11 a.m. Monday with the Reverend Ted Deweese officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Local arrangements were under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Highland. Memorials are designated to the Ski Patrol at the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.
