William Donald "Don" Payne, 53, Indianapolis, passed away Dec. 12, 2010. He was raised in North Little Rock and attended North East High School, class of 1975. Don was a broadcast engineer for Radio One. While attending the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, he worked at radio stations, KAAY and KLPO. Later, Don worked at WZUS and WAZY in Lafayette, IN, while attending Purdue University's School of Engineering. He then moved to Indianapolis where he was an on-air personality and engineer at WZPL. After working as Director of Engineering for WKRQ in Cincinnati, Ohio, Don returned to Indianapolis to be Chief Engineer for Radio One's four radio and one T.V. stations. He was a member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers, Indiana Broadcasters Association and Men's Auxiliary of VFW Post No. 7119. Don is survived by his loving wife, Michele Payne; step-children, Colby Loveland, Daniel Loveland and Amanda (Blake) Snyder; brother, Steve Mitchell Payne of Little Rock, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Col. Billy McDonald and Mary Agnes (Forgy) Payne. Services for Don will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010 at Flanner and Buchanan Market Street Funeral Center, 635 E. Market St., with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 17. A graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Hot Springs, Ark. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Little Red Door, 1801 N.
