Thomas Henderson Newton, age 88, of Little Rock, died Monday, December 20, 2010 at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born on February 15, 1922 in New Albany, Mississippi to his late parents Dr. W. L. and Alwina Thomas Newton. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Little Rock and was retired from the United States Air Force as a Lt. Colonel having served in WWII. While serving his country, he received the Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross with three clusters. He attended Hendrix College, graduated from the University of Texas and served two terms as Mayor of Smackover, Arkansas. In addition, he enjoyed photography, astronomy, golf and tennis but most of all, loved his family. Thomas and Mildred danced together through life from the day that they met and fell in love. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mildred Newton; one daughter Cindy Johnson (Doug), of Mountain Home, Arkansas and one son, Dr. Thomas H. Newton, Jr. (Diana), of Gloucester, Mass.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his brother Dr. John Newton. A graveside service will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Forest Hills Memorial Park with a Memorial Service to follow at 11 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Reverend Blake Bradford officiating.
