Ed Garvis McAlister

Ed Garvis McAlister, 90, of Dover, Ark., passed away Friday, December 24, 2010 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville, Ark. The son of John and Anna Teer McAlister, he was born March 15, 1920 in Pleasant Grove, Ark. He married Margaret Noel on February 22, 1941, this February they would have celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. Ed worked as an electrician and was a 65 year member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers IBEW LU 295. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and a lifelong member of the Pleasant Grove community. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Audra Page, brothers, Don, Joy, and Zerl McAlister. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 69 years Margaret McAlister of Dover; two sons, Robert McAlister & wife Martha of Hot Springs, Dan McAlister and wife Patricia "Bobsie" of Dover; daughter, Diane Barclay & husband Matthew of Dover; seven grandchildren, Janet Brewer, Michael McAlister, Darrell McAlister, Brian Jolly, Doug McAlister, Kristi Burns, Justin Jolly; 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Pleasant Grove Church of Christ. Reverend Jerry Turner and Mike Lee will officiate. Burial will be at Pollard Cemetery in Dover, Ark., by Humphrey Funeral Service. Full military honors will be provided by Rogers-Rye VFW Post #2283.
