Dr. Kang Fan, 72, of North Little Rock passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2010. He was born on August 15, 1938, in Hong Kong. He graduated from the Medical College of National Taiwan University with a M.D. degree followed by a Ph.D. degree in genetics from the University of California, San Francisco, and Davis. He received his postgraduate training at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore and George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He worked at the NIH and in Seattle before coming to Arkansas, where he served many years in the VA Hospital as a pathologist and participated in the training of many Arkansas pathology residents. He also briefly served as the Chairman of Pathology at National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Emily Fan, of North Little Rock, daughter Dr. Melinda Lerwill and grandson, Zane Lerwill, of Arlington, Massachusetts, daughter Sarah Fan of New York City, sister Dr. Carol Fan of Honolulu, Hawaii, and two sisters and a brother in Taiwan. He wished all his friends a healthy and happy life. A visitation will be held 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday at North Little Rock Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1921 Main St., 758-1170.
