Mr. Andrew Jackson Carr, III, 80 of Pine Bluff passed away, Monday, June 28, 2010. He was born February 9, 1930 in Hickman, Kentucky to the late Andrew and Ethel Ingram Carr. He confessed his hope in Christ at an early age at the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Pine Bluff. Andrew or "Jackie" as he was fondly called was a graduate of Coleman High School and UAPB (formerly Arkansas AM&N College). Jackie was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was an all state basketball player at Coleman and also played a period of time at UAPB before he was drafted into military service. Andrew was a General Science teacher at several Arkansas high schools and a basketball coach at Vaster High School for several years. The Vaster Team was the class B state champions in 1975 and lost to Central High School by 3 points in the overall final that same year. He coached with character and integrity and was admired by coaches, players and parents. He attended Pine Bluff Council meetings which led to his appointment as a Pine Bluff Waste Water Commissioner. His knowledge and history of Pine Bluff proved valuable to the Commission. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Pine Bluff. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Martha Ann Jenkins Carr, his son Andrew J Carr, IV, seven brothers: Clarence E. Carr of Altadena, Calif., Patterson W. Carr of Maumelle, Eddie S. Carr of Memphis, Tenn., Morris L. Carr, Frank L. Carr and Paul A. Carr all of Pine Bluff, Selwyn A. Carr of Los Angeles, Calif.; sisters, Jesse I. Carr of Memphis, Tenn. and Revela R. Baker of Chicago, Ill.; granddaughter, Twylla E. Carr and grandson, Lamont D. Washington. Preceding him in death are three brothers and one sister; Roland Carr, Willie Carr, Tommy Carr and Bessie Chatman. His services will be Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church by Reverend Harold Shirlee at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Forrest Lawn.
