Carl Clifton McDowell

Carl Clifton McDowell, 78, of Nacohoches, Texas died on June 27, 2010 at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. He was born April 21, 1932 in Weirgate, Texas to Coy and Aslee McElroy McDowell. After the death of his father, Carl was raised in Hot Springs, Arkansas by his step-mother Ruth Pitts McDowell-Atkinson. He attended public schools in Hot Springs and two years of higher education at Arkansas A.M.&N. College (now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff). He enlisted in the United States Army in 1950, serving tour of duties during the Korean Conflict. After seeing front-line action in battles which made headlines in the United States, McDowell returned with two purple hearts, three battle stars, a presidential unit citation, and the good conduct medal. He was a retired construction worker. McDowell is preceded in death by his father who resided in Hot Springs; his mother Aslee McElroy Luke who resided in Seattle, Washington; and his aunts Cecil Love Presentine and Lucille McElroy Johnson of Nacogdoches. He is survived by his sister Faye Luke Lisaula (Frank) of Seattle, Washington; his children Linda McDowell (Antimoore Jackson, Sr.) of Little Rock, Clifton McDowell of Little Rock, Toni McDowell of Hot Springs; Frederick "Rick" McDowell of Longview, Texas; Sharonda Jones (Jeffrey) of Beckville, Texas; and Yorum McDowell of Houma, Louisiana. A private family memorial was held in Nacogdoches, Texas. Local arrangements entrusted to Carrigan Memorial Funeral Service 336 E Grand Ave., Hot Springs, Ark. (501) 623-7664.
