In loving memory of John Henry Silliman, who passed away peacefully at the age of 86 in his home in Camden, Ark. on July 2, 2010. Born on Oct. 11, 1923 in Camden, Ark., he is survived by daughter, Anne Hunt and son-in-law Jim Hunt of Slidell, La., daughter Janie Crowder and son-in-law Mike Crowder of Frontenac, Mo., daughter-in-law Irma Silliman of Sheridan, Ark.; sister Imogene Clemons of Hammond, La.; grandchildren Brandon and Chad Hunt of Louisiana, John Silliman of Sheridan and Lisa Pickett of Camden, and Betsy and Sam Crowder of Frontenac, Mo.; eight great-grandchildren, and many good friends. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Mildred Mae Silliman (nee Phillips), son Philip William (Bill) Silliman, brothers Ellis Silliman, Guy Silliman, and sisters Hazel Scott, Georgina Silliman, Lucille Brislan, Carol Maloney, and Marie Ledford. Besides a devoted husband and father, John was a retired rural letter carrier in the Camden, Ark. area. He was a decorated World War II veteran, who fought as a paratrooper in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars. After the war, he continued his service to the country as a Major in the Army National Guard and commanded the Camden Company. He served as President of the local chapter of National Association of Retired Federal Employees. In his spare time, John was an avid gardener, wine maker, and hunter at Tulip Creek Deer Camp. He dearly loved the annual Silliman family reunions, the most recent of which was attended by four generations of Sillimans. He was a member of the Rose Couples Class at the First United Methodist Church in Camden. Proctor Funeral Home in Camden is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be Monday July 5 at 10 a.m.–12 p.m. at the Proctor Funeral Home. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Monday July 5 at the First United Methodist Church in Camden with burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Camden.
