Robert M. "Corky" Jackson Sr.

Robert M. "Corky" Jackson, Sr., 81 years of age, of White Bluff Resort, Whitney, Texas, died Friday, July 2, 2010, at the Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Ark. He was born March 27, 1929 at Hardy, Ark. to Floyd Jackson and Addie Metcalf Jackson. He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Addie Jackson, one brother Floyd J. Jackson Jr. He is survived by his wife Mildred Jackson of the home; his son Robert and Barbara Jackson Jr. of Jasper, Texas; daughters Beth and Mike (Buck) Buchanan of Ruidoso, N.M., Patty and John Logan of Louisville, Ky. , Pam and Jack Sigman of Austin, Texas; sister Sue Jackson Norman; grandchildren, Thomas Bledsoe, Brent Bledsoe, Jennifer Jackson Nussbaum, Stephanie Jackson Acosta, Matt Buchanan, Callaway Logan Mefford, Casie Logan, Jackson Sigman, Walker Sigman; great grandchildren Alexander Bledsoe, Nicholas Bledsoe, Hannah Bledsoe, Jacob Jeliti, Aiden Acosta. Funeral services will be Sunday July 4, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Hardy United Methodist Church with Rev. Dewey Dark Jr. officiating burial will follow in the Hardy Cemetery located in Hardy, Ark. Visitation will be Saturday July 3, 2010 at 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Tri-County Funeral Home in Highland, Ark. He was a loving husband, a wonderful father and a great grandfather. He loved to play basketball, golf, and was a pool player extraordinaire. He hunted, traveled, and cheered for the Arkansas Razorbacks with a boisterous "Woo Pig, Sooie!" Nothing made him happier than leading a flotilla of canoes down Spring River with his immediate and extended family, enjoying and worshiping nature's beauty that the Lord made in the Ozark Mountains. Bob graduated from Hardy High School in 1947 where he made All District in basketball. He attended Arkansas Tech in Russellville, Ark. where he played basketball for the Wonder Boys. Graduating from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, he began his career with the Missouri Highway Department in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He then worked with the Missouri-Pacific Railway in Chester, Ill. and Little Rock, Ark. Subsequently, he went into the lumber and timber industry with the Crossett Company in Crossett, Ark. and moved up in management working with Georgia Pacific Corp. in Rocky Mount, N.C. and the division headquarters in Augusta, Ga. He then moved to Jasper, Texas as the general manager of Reynolds-Wilson Lumber Company, Georgia Pacific Corp. and Louisiana Pacific Corp. While there, he was president of the Texas Forestry Association and the Southern Lumber Homebuilders Association. Upon retiring from the lumber industry, Bob started the RMJ Investment Corp. and served as president for a number of years. During his time in Jasper, he served as a director of the First State Bank of Jasper for over 25 years. As a strong Christian leader, he held numerous leadership positions with the United Methodist Church including delegate to the General Conference at the national level for 12 years, lay delegate to Texas Annual Conference for four years, and district lay leader for four years. In his local church, he was chair of the Board of Trustees, adult Sunday school teacher, Bethel Bible study leader, and member of the choir. He was a founding member of the White Bluff Chapel in Whitney, Texas. He held numerous positions in civic organizations throughout his lifetime. Among them, he was president of the Crossett Jaycees, where he received the Distinguished Service Award. At the state level, he was the vice president of the Arkansas Junior Chamber of Commerce and was a state delegate to the national Jaycee convention.
