Jane Elizabeth Kinderman

Jane Elizabeth Kinderman, 72, of Woodstock, passed away Friday, July 2, 2010 at Consulate Health Care in Woodstock. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 17 at 11 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Woodstock. Reverend Nathan Robinson will officiate. Burial will be Monday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at Conestoga Memorial Park in Lancaster, Pa. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church. Jane was born March 14, 1938 in Lancaster, Pa., daughter of the late Burnell W. and Marian Josephine Brown Kinderman. She graduated from the University of Central Arkansas and Arkansas State Teacher's College receiving a Bachelor's Degree and Masters Degree. She taught in the Arkansas school system for 12 years and was an elementary school librarian. She was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in Little Rock. She came to Woodstock in 1972 and joined Emanuel Lutheran Church where she was former financial secretary, organist, choir member and member of the Women of the church. Jane was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma National Sorority for over 50 years earning her Golden Violet in 2007. As a young woman, raised in Pennsylvania and educated in Arkansas, she saw the value of a national sisterhood. This led her to become a national officer in 1968. Kinderman served 40 years in national officer service including 15 years as the Executive Secretary in charge of Tri Sigma's national headquarters in Woodstock, Virginia. In this capacity, she was known for her efficiency and organizational skills. Tri Sigma now awards the Jane E. Kinderman Efficiency Award annually to the collegiate chapter which best demonstrates these skills. Kinderman was also the recipient of Tri Sigma's most prestigious alumnae awards: the Steadfast Alumna Citation, the Founder's Award and the Women of Distinction Award. Jane was one of the first women to join the Woodstock Rotary Club in 1988 where she served as secretary and was later awarded the Paul Harris Fellow Award. Jane was employed with Shaffer's Barbeque in Woodstock, volunteer at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, member of the Women's Club and the Woodstock Fire Dept. Aux. and formerly served on the board of the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival. She is survived by her brother, James B. Kinderman and his wife, Donna of Des Plaines, Ill.; niece, Elizabeth Kinderman and her fiancée, Nathan Karels of Buffalo, Minnesota and numerous cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church, 127 E. High Street, Woodstock, Virginia or Sigma Sigma Sigma Educational Foundation, 225 N.
