W.C . "Dub" Benson 72, child of God, was called home by his heavenly Father on July 5, 2010 after a lengthy battle with complications from colon cancer surgery. Born February 13, 1938 as the youngest of six children to William Collie and Bessie Benson, Dub was raised near Hampton, Arkansas where he graduated from high school in 1955. After serving his country in the U.S. Navy, he embarked on a successful career in advertising and sales which brought him to Little Rock in 1963. He got his start in newspapers, moved to radio, then enjoyed many years at KATV Channel 7 as an advertising executive and sales manager. Dub later formed his own agency, Benson, Smith & Associates, from which he retired in 1996. Known for his generosity and good humor, Dub never failed to bring a smile to the face of everyone he met. In addition, he epitomized true loyalty and friendship. He loved all sports, but fishing was a constant passion throughout his life and he was quite well known for his fried fish and hush puppies. In his retirement years he dedicated his time and energy to his family, community and good friends and fellow veterans at the local VFW Post. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ann Michelle and Pryor Robertson, son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Craig and Charlotte Benson, former wife of over 40 years and mother of his children, Margaret Benson, sisters Janice Leach and Joyce Benson, grandchildren, Jackson Craig, Garland, Christiane, Conner and Alexis, and great grandchildren, Alyssa and Samantha, along with countless friends, nieces, nephews, and many family members whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Cornelius and Thomas Lamar "Pete", and sister, Maxine Reddin. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at a visitation on Friday, July 9, from 5-8 p.m., at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway in Little Rock. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, at Campground Presbyterian Church in Hampton, Arkansas followed by a graveside service at Means Cemetery. In addition, there will be a lunch and visitation at the Campground Presbyterian Fellowship Hall immediately prior to the funeral service beginning at 12 noon on Saturday. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for the tremendous care and support provided by the dedicated physicians, nurses and team at the McClellan VA Surgical Intensive Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, Dub wished for memorials to be made to Beyond Batten Disease Foundation, P.O. Box 200998 Austin, Texas 78720-0998. www.beyondbatten.org For further information contact either Roller-Chenal Funeral Home (13801 Chenal Parkway Little Rock, Arkansas 72211, (501) 224-8300) or Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce, Arkansas (501 West 4th Street Fordyce, Arkansas 71742, (870) 352-3131).
