Stephen Winegardner

On June 30, 2010, God called Stephen Winegardner home. He was born August 3, 1940 in San Bernardino, California to Harold Winegardner and Odessa Gillette. He spent his life in California in the masonry industry and he and Carolyn started Winegardner Masonry Inc. in 1977. Stephen was involved in all phases of the masonry industry and served as president of the Executive Counsel of the Brickmasons Trust. He served as President of the local chapter of the California Conference of Masonry Contractors Association (CCMCA) and as President of the State Masonry Contractors Association. He was involved in the Masonry Institute of America (MIA) and the Joint Apprenticeship Committee. He was a member of the Brickmasons Union for over 50 years. Stephen and Carolyn retired in 2007 turning the business over to their children and moved to Hot Springs Village. They enjoyed traveling, fishing, boating and golfing. Stephen fought a valiant battle after suffering a massive stroke in 2008 and kidney cancer in 2009 with an unbelievable positive spirit and unwavering faith in God. He was an awesome inspiration to all. He was predeceased by his parents and brother. Stephen is survived by his wife of 33 years, Carolyn Winegardner; daughter, Julie Salazar and husband Kelly of Yucaipa California; two sons, Steven Winegardner and wife Becky, of Cumberland City, Tennessee and David Browning and wife Lori of Yucaipa California; and sister, Carol Boehm Berkich and husband Steve of Henderson, Nevada. He was blessed with seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and special cousin Juanita (Neade) Mientke along with Tuffy and Tara. A celebration of his life will take place at a Memorial Service on Saturday July 10th, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Mountainside Methodist Church on El Cano in Hot Springs Village with a reception immediately following the service. Dress will be casual. Those who knew him will remember his smile, great sense of humor, compassion and sheer fun he had living out his Christian beliefs. You will be missed beyond measure, well done good and faithful servant! The family request in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fellowship of Christian Athletes or May's Family Farm (Christian Day Camp) in care of C. The family acknowledges with deep gratitude the devoted care and support given by the staff of the Advanced Care Hospital at St. Joseph Mercy Medical Center and Doctor Timothy Webb.
