David S. Hartley died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with liver cancer. Born on February 18, 1961 in Warren, Arkansas as the fifth child to Gerald Lenoine Hartley and Mary Hotchkiss Hartley, David was reared at Lacey, Arkansas. He graduated from Drew Central High School in 1979 and received a geology degree from the University of Arkansas at Monticello in 1983. David married his best friend and soulmate, Myssy Weller, on July 6, 1985, and they established their home in Conway in 1991. David and Myssy celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on July 6, 2010 with family and friends. David was a beloved father, outdoors man and musician. He loved to camp, fish, play the guitar and work on his cherished Toyota 4x4. His easy-going demeanor and gentle temperament will be missed by all those who knew him. David was a career employee of the State of Arkansas with 20 plus years of service. He was a professional geologist with the Mining Division of the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality at the time of his death. David was preceded in death by his father, Gerald L. Hartley, on December 17, 1997. David is survived by his wife Myssy Weller Hartley and sons, David Shawn Hartley, Jr. and Jeffery Grey Hartley of Conway, Arkansas; his mother, Mary Hotchkiss Hartley of Monticello, Arkansas; three sisters, Ona Hartley McDaniel and husband, Carl, of Elkton, Maryland, Donna Hartley Smith of Homer, Louisiana and April Hartley Ross and husband, John Wayne, of Monticello, Arkansas; one brother, Gerald L. Hartley Jr. of Greenbrier, Arkansas, and other nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. David is also survived by his mother-in-law, Jo Ann Weller Bradshaw and husband, Brad, of Conway, Arkansas; his father-in-law, James Weller of Conway, Arkansas; and sister-in-law, Donna Weller Ripley, her husband, Roger, and their sons, Curtis and Stuart, of Conway, Arkansas. Visitation and memorial services will held on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at the Roller-McNutt Funeral Home located at 801 8th Street, Conway, Arkansas. 501-327-7727. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. followed by memorial services at 3 p.m. Casual attire is welcomed.
