Edith Davis Chambers

Jefferson, AR, 1920 - 2010

Edith Davis Chambers, 89, of Jefferson, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010. She was born Nov. 19, 1920, in Jefferson, the daughter of the late A.M. and Willie Mae Davis. A longtime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School class, she was valedictorian at Redfield High School in 1939 before becoming postmaster at Jefferson for 38 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Marion Chambers; her brothers, Herman, Curtis, Cecil and Leonard Davis; and son-in-law, James Garner. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Garner of Jefferson; sister, Doris Turbeville of Jefferson; grandson, Alan Garner and wife Patsy of White Hall; grandson, David Garner and wife Rhonda of White Hall; great-grandchildren, Brian, Kyle and Trevor Garner, and Alexis and Julianne Garner, all of White Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 17, at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Home in Pine Bluff, with the Rev. Allen Elkins and the Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Orion Cemetery in Grant County. Visitation will be Friday, July 16, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
