Lexy "SweetPea" Frances Claiborne Simpson 98, of Clinton, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Ozark Health Nursing Center Clinton, Arkansas. She was born November 3, 1911 at Lynn County, Texas to the late Samuel B. and Frances (Morgan) Claiborne. Lexy was the owner and operator of Simpson's Store in downtown Clinton along with her husband, Lawson, and sister, Mary Burgess for 50 years retiring at the age of 90. Four days after her retirement she started working with her son-in-law John Hargis at the Huddle House in Clinton for four more years, officially retiring at the age of 94. She was the ultimate Clinton Yellowjacket and Arkansas Razorback fan. She was a charter member of the Clinton B&PW Club, a member of the Idle Hour Bridge Club, and a member of the Clinton United Methodist Church. In 1998 she was selected as the Clinton High School Distinguished Alumni. To honor her for her fanatic loyalty to the Yellowjacket basketball team, she was asked to toss out the first basketball to open Yellowjacket Arena in 2006. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 35 years Lawson H. Simpson and her three brothers and three sisters. SweetPea is survived by her daughter Sunny and son-in-law, John Hargis of Clinton; grandchildren, Michael and Angela Alexander, of Clinton, John Lawson and Lauren Hargis, of State College, Pa., and James Simpson and Brandi Hargis, of Conway; and great-grandchildren, Zachary Michael and John William Alexander of Clinton, and John Matthew Hargis, of State College, Pa. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., Friday, July 16, 2010 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home Chapel Clinton, Arkansas. Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Clinton United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Clinton United Methodist Church, Van Buren County Library, or Ozark Health Foundation.
