Phyllis Lamberth Spikes passed away unexpectedly in Jonesboro, Ark., Wednesday, July 14, 2010. She was a member of the Jonesboro First United Methodist Church, Junior Auxillary, Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce and served on the boards of the Salvation Army, Orpheum Theatre in Memphis and the formerly known First Bank. She was also General Partner of Lamco. Phyllis was born in Jonesboro on May 15, 1941, to Mr. Doile and Bernice Cothern. Phyllis married Dean Langford soon after graduating Bald Knob High School, and they raised two sons, Tim and Mike, in Searcy, Ark. Phyllis married Ben Lamberth in 1979 and moved to Jonesboro. She and Ben were happily married for 14 years. They enjoyed traveling and spending time in Hardy at their cabin on the Spring River. She was a devoted mother, daughter, sister and friend to many and an exceptional grandmother, known as "Gan", to all who loved her. Gan was fun-loving, generous, caring, adventurous, entertaining, and she was never afraid to speak her mind! Her hobbies were reading, watching her favorite horse, "Jonesboro," shopping and doting on her grandchildren. Psalm 46:4 reads, "There is a river whose streams make glad the City of God, the Holy habitation of the Most High," and we all anxiously await our reunion at Gan's cottage on the river. Survivors include her mother, Bernice Logan Cothern of Searcy; two sons, Michael Langford (Diane) of Jonesboro and Tim Langford (Terri) of Little Rock; five grandchildren, Morgan Langford, Troy Langford both of Jonesboro, Aaron Langford, Brian Langford and Caitlynn Langford all of Little Rock; a brother, Logan Cothern (Marlene). She was preceded in death by her father, M. Doile Cothern and husband Ben J. Lamberth. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, July 19, 2010, at 1 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Miles II officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Visitation will be Sunday, July 18, 2010, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Gregg Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Honored to serve as pallbearers are David Lamberth, Mike Lamberth, Wallace Fowler, Bill Hurt, Bill Caldwell and Paul Hanshaw, and as honorary pallbearers are the Board of Directors of Liberty Bank of Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army of Jonesboro and First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro. Personal condolences may be sent to the Langford and Cothern families at www.greggfunerals.com.
