Walter Cleo Buckner

WALTER CLEO BUCKNER, age 87 of Sherwood, left his earthly home on Friday, July 16, 2010, to be reunited with his beloved wife, Grace, in their eternal home. Walter was born in Drew, Miss. on September 18th, 1922 to the late Jessie Cleo and Elsie Skeen Buckner. He was the oldest of four children and at the age of fourteen, had to leave school following the death of his father, and worked to support his family. He married Grace Chalfant in 1941 and served his country in the Navy during WW II. He worked for KARK-TV for 32 years, where he retired in 1986 as film editor. He was a member of Baring Cross Baptist church and will be remembered by his family and friends as a kind and gentle man and a devoted husband to his wife, Grace of 64 years. He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Buckner Shirley, of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; his son, James Michael Buckner and wife, Sherilynn, of Mountain Home, Idaho; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace, two brothers; a sister; his son-in-law, Hal D. Shirley; a grandson, Russell Shirley, and a great-granddaughter, Tovi Maria Shirley. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, July 19, 2010 at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, Ark. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Chapel. Internment will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Valley Ranch Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Little Rock for the care and love shown to Walter during his residency there. Also, to the doctors and nurses at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, and to the caregivers at Arkansas Hospice, our sincere appreciation.
