Carroll Phillip "Brownie" Williams, age 78, of Morrilton passed away July 24, 2010, at his home in Morrilton after a brief illness. He was a loving and gentle father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and a true friend to many. Brownie was a Christian and lifelong Baptist. He was born Sept. 11, 1931, at Scotland, Ark., son of the late Thomas and Rose Williams. He was preceded in death by his precious wife of 42 years, Mary Ashcraft Williams. Brownie is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Bruce Hawkins of Morrilton; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Doris Williams of Knoxville, Ark.; his grandchildren, Clayton Hawkins of Morrilton, Amanda Williams of Clarksville, Kevin Williams of Russellville, and Nicholas Williams of Knoxville. One great-grandchild, Nathaniel Sparks of Clarksville. Other survivors included seven sisters and one brother, Virgie Sommers of Morrilton, Sherman "Buck" Williams of Pea Ridge, Anna Ruth Wells of Cleveland, Shirley Massingill of Hattieville, Barbara Stracner of Morrilton, Tommie Williams of Morrilton, Johnnie Williams of Morrilton and Linda Campbell of Cleveland; along with numerous nieces and nephews and a host of lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Lowell Williams and Sally Durham. Brownie was a 1951 graduate of Wonderview High School where he played basketball for the Dare Devils. He was very proud to have served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He remained a proud veteran and never failed to salute the flag when appropriate. After returning from the war, he went to work with his father in the sawmill business until he joined Arkansas Kraft Corporation in 1967 where he worked until his retirement in 1994. Upon retirement he continued his favorite pastime of fishing and was a proud member of Fish Lake Club. Brownie was an avid Razorback fan rarely missing a football or basketball game. He loved watching his grandchildren grow up around his pool. Funeral services will be Monday, July 26, 2010, at 2 p.m., First Baptist Church in Morrilton, officiating Dr. Bill Brown and Brother Paul Sheets. Interment will be at Brent's Cemetery in Cleveland with arrangement by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. Pallbearers include Clayton Hawkins, Kevin Williams, Nicholas Williams, M. L. Tester, Freddie Peck, Jamie Huett, Charlie Wallace and Dr. Charles Wells. Honorary pallbearers include the membership of Fish Lake Club. Memorials may be made to the Brents Cemetery General Fund c/o Virgie Sommers, 307 N. St. Jacob, Morrilton, Ark. 72110.
