Betty May (Obenshain) Tucker of Benton, age 91, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010. Betty was born January 23, 1919 in Eureka Springs, Ark. to the late Mabel and Uther A. Obenshain. Betty grew up in Little Rock and graduated valedictorian of her mid-term class from Little Rock (now Central) High School. Betty was a graduate of Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) and was a retired elementary school teacher having served schools in Sheridan, Little Rock, Benton, and Bauxite. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a society for women in education, and a dedicated member of her beloved First Baptist Church of Benton for 54 years. Betty is preceded in death by Penn Tucker, her loving husband of 62 years, her parents, one brother, and three sisters. She is survived by two sons, Tom Tucker and his wife Peggy of Little Rock, and Dick Tucker and his wife Susan of Benton. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Justin, Richie, and Peter Tucker, Tiffany Talbert, and Katherine Colgan, along with six great grandchildren. The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Bryant Healthcare and Saline Memorial Hospice who took care of Betty in the latter part of her life. Family visitation will be Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Benton with Dr. Rick Grant and Rev. Kim Hammer officiating. Interment will follow in New Rosemont Memorial Park. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, 211 S. Market, Benton, Ark. 72015.
