Richard N Deed

Richard N. "Dick" Deed, age 88, passed away on Sunday June 6, 2010. Richard was born on August 3, 1921 in Nyack, New York, the son of William J. and Marian O. (Lepoids) Deed. Dick attended Nyack schools and graduated in 1939. He went to work at Lederle Laboratories and worked for Seeley and Company. With the advent of WWII, Dick entered the US Army on July 8, 1942 at Fort Jay, N.J. and served in the European Theatre of War in France and Austria until 1946. He entered the University of Missouri and received a B.S. in forestry in 1950. Dick joined the Arkansas Forestry Commission as a Management Forester at the Little Rock headquarters until his retirement from there in 1976. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dr. Eleanor Deed in 1999, his son Walter in 2007 as well as his two brothers, Robert and Donald Deed. Those left to mourn his passing include his two daughters, Amy Carroll and husband Frank of Tahlequah, Okla. and Dr. Ashley Deed of Little Rock, Ark.; his daughter -in-law Becky Deed of Southlake, Texas; and his four grandchildren, Matthew Brunson, Brittnay Carroll, Brian Carroll and Alex Carroll. Richard will also be greatly missed by his special companion JoAnn Stepp of Tahlequah, as well as many beloved friends at St. Basil's Episcopal Church and Kiwanis. Those who knew Richard appreciated his kind disposition, warm smile and sense of humor. Memorial services for Richard Deed will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Basil's Episcopal Church in Tahlequah, with the Reverend Debora Jennings officiating. Interment will be held at 9 a.m. at Tahlequah City Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah.
