Samuel Harris Greenwood, Sr., 74, of Perryville, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2010. He was born June 8, 1936, in Camden, Arkansas, the son of O.R.S. and Verna Greenwood. After spending his childhood in Frenchport, Arkansas, Sam received his B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Louisiana Tech University. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Jean Fortner Greenwood; daughter, Lisa Kaye George of Perryville; son, Samuel Harris "Chip" Greenwood, Jr. of Cabot; and two grandchildren, Robert Alexander George and Danielle Alyse George both of Perryville. Sam is also survived by his sister, Caroline Golightly of Pensacola, Florida, and brother, Joe Greenwood of Camden. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Greenwood and both parents. Sam's job as a petroleum engineer took him all over the United States and the World working on five of the seven continents. He is a U.S. Army Veteran, a member of the Perryville Masonic Lodge #238, a member of Perryville First Baptist Church, and many other professional organizations. His hobby was his work, but he did enjoy landscaping and flowers. Sam was a man of few words, but his words were always worth listening to. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 15, from 6-8 p.m. at the Harris Funeral Home in Perryville. Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 16, at Perryville Cemetery. Arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home of Perryville. Pallbearers are Herby Branscum, Robert Brazil, Rob Hill, Richard Johnson, Eddy Martin, and Dr. Garry Stewart. Honorary pallbearers are Tom Cook, Jon Erickson, Feldor Hollingshead, Robert Willett, and Mark Yelverton and all the other "oilfield trash" who loved and respected him.
