Zadie Bell Murphy Burch

Zadie Bell Murphy Burch, 94, of Hamburg, died Sunday, June 13, 2010 at The Woods of Monticello. Mrs. Burch was a native of Hamburg and a resident of Hamburg for many years and a former resident of Monticello and Drew County. She was a homemaker; an avid hand quilter and foster mother to 97 children. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church and she wrote the Shiloh and Fountain Hill news for the Ashley County Ledger for many years. She is preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Charlie Edward Burch in 2007; a son, Ivan Wayne Burch in 2007; two grandsons, David Allen Hartley & Charles DeWayne Burch; her parents, Earl & Amy Carpenter Murphy; three sisters and three brothers. She is survived by two daughters, Jerline Burch McCarty and husband, Leo, of Wilmer and Mildred Burch Hartley and husband, Kenneth, of Hamburg; a daughter-in-law, Clara Pruitt Burch of Hamburg; a foster daughter, Doris Hudson of Monticello; a sister, Beatrice Murphy White of Oakley, California; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 10 a.m., Wednesday in the chapel of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Flat Creek Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8, Tuesday.
