Orby O. Mahan, age 87, of Alexander, Arkansas passed away to be with his Lord, Monday, June 14, 2010 at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock. He was born December 3, 1922 in Damascus, Arkansas to the late Henry Mahan and Annie L. Hurst Mahan-Womack. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mahan was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Mahan; three sisters, Louise Quattlebaum, Dorothy Copeland and Lona Renfrow. Mr. Mahan is survived by his wife of 62 ½ years, Helen Louise Surguine Mahan of the home; one sister, Connie Boyle of Morrilton; one son, Jerry Mahan; two daughters, Brenda (B.J.) Wyrick (Phil); Tricia Alexander-Stipeo (Keith); three granddaughters, Dr. Theresa O. Wyrick Glover (David); Natalie Louise Wyrick and Miriam A. Spence (Charlie); two grandsons, Jordon W. Alexander of the Navy in North Carolina; Brett P. Alexander of Rogers; two great grandchildren, Matthew and Sarann Spence of Cabot and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends. Mr. Mahan served his country in the United States Army in the 536th Amphibious Tractor Battalion in the Philippines during World War II and the Korean War. He loved his country. He also worked at Fort Roots Hospital in nursing service, security and fire department. He attended Vimy Ridge Baptist Church. Mr. Mahan retired in 1973 from the Veterans Administration. He loved to work with his cows and lots of other animals. He loved gardening, deer hunting and fishing. He loved his dog, Scottie. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Roller-Drummond Funeral Home, 10900 Interstate 30, Little Rock, Ark. 72209 (501) 455-5800. Burial to follow at Riverwood Memorial Gardens.
