Daniel "Dean" Spears, 85 of Conway passed away on Friday, June 18, 2010. He was born Wednesday, April 29, 1925 in Greenbrier to the late Samuel Virgil Spears and Mary Ruth Ward Spears. He was preceded in death by a sister Geneva Hegi. He was a member of the Church of The Nazarene in Conway, a WWII veteran of the Army Air Corp, past commander of DAV Post No. 10, member of the American Legion and a member of the NRA. He was retired from Civil Service at the Little Rock Air Base where he was supervisor of the Carpenters Shop for Base Housing. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Erma Lavonne Hutto Spears; daughter Vonna Dean Coker and her husband Gail of Conway; two sons, Danny A. Spears and his wife Elizabeth of Conway, and Sammy L. Spears and wife Connie of Conway; one sister, Virginia Dare Ellzey of North Little Rock; three brothers, Thomas N. Spears of Lexington, S.C., Virgil F. Spears of Russellville, Ark., and James D. Spears of Atmore, Ala. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, Teresa Dickenson, Lisa Murdock (David), James Coker (Jami), Jeremy Spears (Shawn), Jason Spears (Lindsey) Julie Spears and Jonathan Spears; 13 great-grandchildren, Stephenie Dickenson, Justin Murdock, James "Buddy" Coker Jr. Taylor Mae Spears, Hunter Dean Spears, Blake Hillenburg, Fisher Spears, Joy Murdock, Tanner Spears, Zack Hillenburg, Emma Spears, Tucker Spears and Hunter Coker. Services are 10 a.m. Monday, June 21, 2010 at First Church of the Nazarene in Conway. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jonathan, Jeremy and Jason Spears, James Coker and Justin Murdock. Honorary Pallbearers are Leon Weldon, Ed Griffith, Barry Shaffer, Donnie Johnson, Ricky Burchfield, Tyler Burchfield, Ted and Dwight Hutto.
