Ralph H. Byrd Jr.

Ralph H. Byrd Jr., 66, of Searcy, AR, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010. He was born on Thursday, July 8, 1943, in San Angelo, Texas, to the late Ralph and Ella (Rieser) Byrd. Ralph is survived by his wife, Alice (Clowers) Byrd; three daughters, Gloria Swan (Randi), Marita Swan, and Janet Swan; three sons, Richard Bullock (Penny), Randi Swan (Gloria) and Ecil "Sonny" Swan; one brother, Norman O. Byrd (Jeri); and one sister, Vickii Byrd. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Ralph Wayne Byrd and Coy Logan Swan. Ralph had so many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he said he could not keep count of them all, but he always loved each one. Ralph was the owner and administrator of Byrd Haven Nursing Home, in Searcy, for many years. He was a disabled Vietnam Veteran, and was a lifetime member of the Searcy Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 2330. He loved the post and the camaraderie of the friends he had out there. Ralph served on many Post 2330 offices and committees, including Commander. Mr. Byrd's visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at the Roller-Daniel Funeral Chapel. Interment, with military honors, will follow in White County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Michael Bullock, Dustin Bullock, Tony Bullock, Scot Swan, Jo-Jo Swan, Joel Green, Michael Moffit, A.J. Moffit, Ricky Couch, and Nicholas Bullock. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charley Taylor, Bill Buchanan, W.O. "Bud" Wilson, Tim Rice, Kerry Byrd, and J.D. Covington.
