Ross Garner Sutherlin, 77, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., died on June 27, 2010 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Ark. He was born March 8, 1933 in Haughton, La. to James B. and Lucille McAnn Sutherlin. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother (and best friend), Bill Sutherlin. Mr. Sutherlin is survived by his wife of 29 years, Glenda Walker Sutherlin, of Hot Springs Village; son, David Ross Sutherlin of Lovelady, Texas; two stepsons: Michael Carter (Jolene) of Chesapeake, Va., and Matthew Carter (Angie) of Dubach, La.; brother, Bob Sutherlin of Liberty, Texas; four sisters: Dell Jones (Wes) of Indianapolis, Ind., Marjorie Steele of Fort Worth, Texas, Anna Nadine Morgan of Hot Springs Village, Ark., and Elayne Cornett of Rogers, Ark.; one grandson, Marcus Brooks Sutherlin of Winnfield, La.; five step-grandchildren: Ashley Eiban, Justin Carter, Lauren Carter, Jonathan Carter and Blake Carter; and several nieces and nephews. Upon graduation from Haughton High School, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, where he became an airplane mechanic. He was based at Lackland, Sheppard and Barksdale Air Force bases. Ross worked as a natural gas compression station operator for Texas Gas Transmission, Owensboro, Ky. for 36 years, retiring in 1990. He lived and worked in Haughton and Dubach, La. until 1996, when he and his wife Glenda retired to Hot Springs Village, Ark., where he was active at Balboa Baptist Church and the Village Green Lawn Bowling Club. His passions in life were cattle raising, NASCAR racing, Colorado, pickup trucks, lawn bowling and playing pool with friends. But especially, he loved all his family, his Sunday School class and his church. The funeral services will be 9:30 a.m., Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Balboa Baptist Church, with visitation at the church from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Interment will be at Haughton Cemetery, Haughton, La., at 4 p.m. Arrangements are by Caruth Village Funeral Home, Hot Springs Village and RoseNeath Funeral Home, Bossier City, La. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Balboa Baptist Church, Hot Springs Village, Ark., New Prospect Baptist Church, Dubach, La. or Gideons International. The family acknowledges with deep gratitude, the devoted care and support given by the medical staff at Baptist Health during his last days – also a special thanks to Drs. Baltz and Gentry and their staff for their love and support given during the last several months. Ross was a lifelong Christian who lived his life guided by his faith.
