Helen Harrison Murphy

Helen Harrison Murphy died Saturday, Oct. 30 in Conway. She was born on Nov. 25, 1929 in Bastrop, La., to the late Virgil and Dora Harrison. After growing up there she worked for the Bastrop National Bank. In 1948 she married Kenneth Murphy Sr., her loving companion of nearly 51 years. The Murphys moved to Pine Bluff in 1958. After he died in 1999, she moved with her children to Searcy, Jonesboro and Conway. Survivors are her children Melinda Murphy Nance (Dr. Melvin) of Jonesboro and Dr. Ken Murphy (Pattie) of Conway plus six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and numerous family members and friends who were blessed by her devotion to God, church and family. She loved cooking, genealogy research, crossword puzzles, collecting teapots and angels, watching the birds and fussing at the pesky squirrels. We all loved her and will miss her greatly. Special thanks go to Dr. Bill Roberts, Arkansas Hospice and to the staff of 2North at CRMC. Visitation is Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Ralph Robinson & Son in Pine Bluff. Helen's nephew Joe Jackson will lead a graveside celebration of her life at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cypress Memorial Gardens near Pine Bluff. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital (http://www.archildrens.org/foundation/how_help/donate_online.asp) or the American Lung Association (http://www.lungusa.org/donate/).
