David J. Baumgardner

David J. Baumgardner, of Maumelle, died Friday, October 29, 2010. He was born on December 22, 1927, in Avon Park, Florida to the late Vera Alexander Collie and Hugh Spence Baumgardner. He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Alabama. From there he moved to Fayetteville to graduate from the University of Arkansas as a member of the ROTC. After graduation, he joined the Army as a 1st Lieutenant and served in the Korean War. Following his service in the Korean War he returned to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, and obtained a Masters Degree in Geology. After graduation he began working for National Lead, Baroid Division, where he traveled throughout the Southwestern United States, Mexico, and South America. Later, he settled in Little Rock where he owned Arkansas Explosives and FASCO Medical and Safety Company. He was appointed to the Arkansas Geological Commission where he proudly served from 1977 to present. He was also an integral part of the success of the Big Brother program in central Arkansas in the 1970's. From private clubs, to restaurants, to sail boat charters in the Caribbean... He lived life to the fullest. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Barbara Lynn; son, John Baumgardner of Dallas, Texas; daughters, Karen Adney of Maumelle and Anna-Marie Walloch of Cambridge, Canada; grandchildren, Desi Walloch of Dallas, Texas; Kirsten Rose of Alpine, Texas and Nicholas Adney, of Maumelle; great granddaughter, Rylea Lynn Munda of Alpine, Texas; sister, Shara Adams and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 W. Markham St., Little Rock on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 10 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Amboy Food Pantry, 100 Auburn Drive, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72118 or the Pulaski County Humane Society.
