Katheryne Bryant Wade

Mrs. Katheryne Bryant Wade, 86, of Pine Bluff, passed away Monday, October 25, 2010, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Born February 19, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter of the late Andrew J. and Annie Mae Shaw Bryant. As a young girl, she and her family moved to the Pine Bluff area, where she was reared and recieved her early education, graduating from Merrill High School. After high school, she attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. She went on to attend Tuskegee Institute and Meharry Medical College Nursing School, where she received her Registered Nursing Degree. She continued to further her education in Chicago, with several post graduate classes. Mrs. Wade worked for over 30 years as a Registered Nurse at the Veteran's Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, where she served as head of Operating Room Nursing. After losing her beloved husband, Robert in 1978, she retired and returned home to the Pine Bluff area. She was a faithful member of St. James AME Church of Pine Bluff. Mrs. Wade was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Wade, and her brother and sister-in-law, Ruby Frank Bryant Sr. and Alice Bryant. She is survived by her two nephews, Andrew Bryant (Maria), of Starksville, Mississippi and R. Frank Bryant, Jr. (Ardene), of Little Rock, Arkansas; her two nieces, Regina Bryant Parker of Sycamore, Illinois and Patricia Bryant McEwen (Phillip), of St. Louis, Missouri; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Nathaniel and Georgia Hicks, of Pine Bluff; grandnieces and grandnephews, Katheryne Bliss Parker (named after her), Brandon Bryant Parker, Carmen Bryant, Andrew Bryant VI, Darla Bryant, Alice Bryant, William McEwen, Patrick McEwen and Stephanie McEwen Samuels; along with a host of extended family and many friends. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, November 5, 2010 at Graceland with Reverend Henry Wilkins IV and Reverend Clifton O'Neal officiating.
