THOMAS EUGENE "GENE" BARFIELD, of Little Rock, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010. He was born on July 24, 1917 in Greene County, Ark., and preceded in death by his parents L.E. and Ima Barfield and a grandson Jonathan Barfield. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marie Barfield, son and daughter-in-law Michael and Brenda Barfield, daughter and son-in-law Penny and Phil Olinghouse, son and daughter-in-law Cleve and Judy Barfield, and daughter and son-in-law Mindy and James Brincefield. He was blessed with eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The pride of his life was his family. He especially looked forward to holidays when his whole family could be together. He would always be there when anyone had some problem, large or small, that needed skilled hands. He was a true father, Grandpa and friend. Gene was a U.S Army veteran of World War II. He was assigned to the Pacific Theater and was stationed in Australia and New Guinea. He retired from the Little Rock Police Department in 1969 with 20 years of service to the citizens of our city. Following, Gene worked for the Teletype Corporation for 16 years and was a member of the Teletype Pioneers Club. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Albert Pike Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. Gene was also a dedicated member of Immanuel Baptist Church for over 50 years. Family will receive visitors Monday evening from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 W. Markham. Gene's wonderful life will be celebrated at Immanuel Baptist Church on Tuesday Nov. 9, 2010 at 11 a.m. A graveside service will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
