Clarence D. Childers

God called Clarence to join Verda in Heaven November 3, 2010. Clarence D. Childers was born in Emporia, Kansas to Daniel A. & Alfretta (Mast) Childers on July 13, 1916. He was the fourth of six children, Dora Bender, Harold, Ed & Verl Childers have previously passed. His remaining sister Esther Robinson lives in Carmichael, Calif. He married Verda M. (Brown) July 6, 1941. The couple lived in Wichita where Clarence worked for Boeing Aircraft until he was drafted into the US Army. He served with the 164th Field Artillery during WWII from 1941-1945 in the Pacific Theater. He also served in Korea with the 439th Engineers Corps from 1950-1952. Upon his return from war the couple settled in Emporia & resided at 424 Lincoln for over 60 years. Clarence worked for the Kansas Power & Light Company as a gas meter repairman retiring in 1980 after 35 years of service. He lived his final year & a half in Bella Vista, Ark. to be near his daughter Milly. Clarence was a proud life member of over 60 years in the Masonic Lodge in Emporia. He was also a member of Eastern Star, VFW & Sertoma Club. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Verda, June 2009. He is survived by a son, Stuart A. Childers of Wichita, daughter Sharman Wallace (Danny) of Long Beach, Calif., & daughter, Milly Boydston (Randy) of Pineville, Mo., grandchildren, Kimberley Kelly of Emporia, Victoria Burr (Aaron), Shane Andrew Childers of Wichita, Jill Williams (Nathan), Aurora, Colo., Timothy Wallace (Christina) Dixon, Mo., Dakota Logan (Brook), Mountain Home, Ark., Heather Noonan (Denny) Burlington, Kan., Tammy Boydston, Bentonville, Ark., step-grandchildren, James Boydston, Bentonvile, Arkansas and Stephanie Boydston, Rogers, Arkansas. He has 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way. A memorial service will be planned for a future date in Emporia, Kansas.
