DORTHY F. NELSON, a resident of North Little Rock for over 49 years, went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 12, 2010. She was born on March 6, 1928 in Dyersburg, Tenn. and graduated from Dyersburg High School. After a brief time working in Memphis, Tenn., she moved with her new husband, Dr. N. R. Nelson, to Prescott, Ark. in 1949 and they began their life together. Dot worked in an insurance office in Prescott for Bill Gordon. Dot and Newte quickly became great friends with the Gordon's. She also worked tirelessly for First United Methodist Church in Prescott and Lakewood United Methodist Church in North Little Rock, serving in many capacities over her life. She also worked with the Arkansas Optometric Association Auxiliary for many years. She helped manage her husband's optometry practice and dedicated her life in service to her Lord, her husband, sons, grandchildren and lifelong friends. Dot's home was always open for those that she cared about. Dot played basketball growing up, played golf during her adult life and was a dedicated Razorback fan. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends at Lake Ouachita. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. N. R. Nelson and two brothers, Paul Pope and Murry Pope. She is survived by her sister Mary Helen Ladd of Newbern, Tenn.; two sons, Lynn Nelson and wife Tracy of Bedford, Texas ,and Tom Nelson and wife Wendy of Conway, Ark.; five grandchildren, Ashley Grisham, Ryan Nelson, Jordan Hidler, Marcy Nelson and Jack Nelson; and six great-grandchildren, Annie, Martin, Sam and Luke Grisham, and Raimie and Alyssa Nelson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Building or Endowment funds at Lakewood United Methodist Church in North Little Rock. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15 at Lakewood United Methodist Church, 1922 Topf Road, North Little Rock, led by Rev. Richard Lancaster. Entombment will be at Rest Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum. Family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170.
