Larry Lee Blackwell

Larry Lee Blackwell, 59, of Ulm, passed away Thursday, November 18th, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. While his sometimes gruff demeanor said one thing, his willingness to help his friends and family with difficult projects spoke of the soft heart inside. Larry was a great husband, Dad, and Grandpa who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandson, Dustin Blackwell, and he looked forward to sharing those activities one day with his one-year old grandson, Jackson Short. It was never Larry's intention to fight a cancer diagnosis, but Jackson's birth changed his mind. It became his goal to live long enough for Jackson to know his Grandpa as well as Dustin knows him, and he fought his leukemia with every ounce of stubbornness he possessed. Larry was born and raised in Biscoe, Ark. on August 27th, 1951. He was employed by Riceland Foods and a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Rich. He was preceded in death by his father, John Orville Blackwell; his mother, Ruby Lee Erwin Blackwell; and his brother, Roy Jackson Blackwell. In addition to his grandsons, Larry is survived by his wife, Cheryl; son, Shane Blackwell of Trumann; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jonathan Short of Ulm; and his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Norris Hutshens of Stuttgart. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m., Saturday, November 20, 2010, at Fowler Funeral Home in Brinkley. Funeral service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Highway 49 South, Brinkley, at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 21st, 2010 with Pastor Johnny Graham officiating, Interment will follow at Biscoe Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church or the Arkansas Sheriffs' Youth Ranches, Inc.
