Ledia Ware Harkness

Ledia Ware Harkness 1907-2010 Mother departed this world for her heavenly home November 26, 2010. Ledia Ware Harkness was born in 1907 in Lewisville, Arkansas, to William and Ledia Chauvet Ware, one of Stuttgart's earliest settlers. Ledia was the youngest of seven children. She graduated from Stuttgart High School at the age of seventeen and began her teaching career many years before receiving her degree from Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway. Ledia taught at Julia Shannon Elementary School the first year it opened and later at Stillwell and Goldman, then back to Julia Shannon until retirement. During that time she was able to touch so many young lives, and most rewarding in the later years were the visits from former students. Mother remained brilliantly sharp, she enjoyed Bridge and was an avid reader and loved working in her yard. Mother was the oldest member of First Baptist Church. She celebrated her 103rd birthday in January. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Robert Tuttle, three granddaughters and their husbands, Lisa and Kervin Lewis, Leslie and Martin Alonso and Ledia and Bill Tarazewich, and six great-grandchildren, Kyle, Leigh and Ben Alonso, Luke, Tess and Trey Tarazewich, all from Dallas; and mother's very best long-time friend, Viola Peacock. We wish to express appreciation to Linda Lyons for her many years of tender care for both mother and Linda and to Connie McCarty and Becky Lepine for their countless house calls. Mother loved you. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Sam Roberts officiating. Burial to follow at Lone Tree Cemetery where mother will join Lin, Zippy, her parents and three brothers and one granddaughter. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Turpin Funeral Home No eye has seen No ear has heard No mind has conceived What God has prepared for those Who love him. II Cor. 29.9. Please go to www.turpinco.com to sign the online guestbook.
